B.C. to offer remote communities funding to develop clean energy sources
Energy Minister Richard Neufeld says British Columbia will give $20 million to remote communities to encourage and support sustainable clean energy systems.
Neufeld says any communities that do not already have a community energy plan are eligible for funding to allow them to have the same type of energy options available in urban centres.
Communities can also apply for assistance to support clean energy and energy efficiency projects.
The program provides funding for capital costs, as well project studies, design and management.
The Remote Community Clean Energy Program includes the distribution of energy savings kits to homes in remote communities.
The first kits will be distributed starting later this month.
